THE MISSION IS ON COURSE: IT’S TIME FOR WARD 8
By: Jude Okoyomoh
The principles of equity and fairness demand that “equals should be treated equally and unequals unequally,” a philosophy increasingly echoed in political discussions across Akoko-Edo.
In the spirit of justice and balanced representation, stakeholders have reiterated that elective positions should be equitably distributed among all tribes and communities to promote lasting peace and unity.
Ward 8, according to community voices, has consistently played a significant role in the political development of Akoko-Edo, contributing massively to electoral victories through strong voter turnout and civic participation. Despite this, it is alleged that the ward remains politically marginalized in elective representation.
Historical records suggest that since the First Republic (1963) to date over six decades the only notable elective position occupied by Ward 8 was a single-term Local Government Chairman, the late Hon. Don Oteh Umoru. Meanwhile, Ward 8 is reported to be among the top three in voter registration strength in Akoko-Edo and second within Akoko-Edo South Constituency.
Observers argue that this imbalance highlights a structural gap in representation and calls for urgent correction based on equity principles.
Reaffirming their position, community stakeholders declared support for Hon. Shaibu Jafaru Inua (popularly known as “Mr. Fish”), the Hon. Shaibu Jafaru Inua, as a frontline candidate for the 2027 Edo State House of Assembly election under the banner of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
They emphasized that the movement seeks fairness, inclusion, and long-overdue political recognition for Ward 8.
