Peter Ohio Akpatason, the Honourable Member representing Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency, along with some traditional rulers in the region.Their resistance appears to be driven by selfish and self-centered interests rather than the collective good of the people they claim to represent. It is unfortunate that some leaders and traditional rulers in Akoko-Edo have developed a mindset of acting like demi-gods placing themselves above the people instead of serving them.Hon. Akpatason, who has been in office for several years, has failed to deliver meaningful projects that truly impact the lives of his constituents. One glaring example is the Atte community bridge project, which he deceitfully presented with the help of an unqualified engineer. Rather than solving the problem, the project worsened the situation of the bridge, leaving the community in a more vulnerable state.It is the same Hon. Akpatason who is now allegedly opposing the creation of Agbelor Local Government—a development that would benefit several communities by bringing government presence, resources, and representation closer to the grassroots.The people of Akoko-Edo deserve better. Our leaders should be working to empower communities, not suppress them for personal or political gain. The call for Agbelor Local Government is not about division, but about growth, accessibility, and justice for the underrepresented.Let us not allow personal interests to outweigh the collective progress of our people.
